The Shift

The Shift
John 3:30 “He must become greater, I must become less”

Can you imagine being so famous that you have hundreds or even thousands of hardcore fans surrounding you all the time? Fans that are so into you that they gather from cities all over the country just to see you and hear what you have to say? Or check this out! Imagine being so famous that when you are out on the town, that as soon as you leave the house fans from the whole city flock to your side while hanging on every word that you speak to them!

Sounds crazy right! Well, this was the life of John the Baptist.

See…the people hadn’t heard from God in over 400 years! No prophets. No audible voices from heaven. No nothing! So when John hit the scene after over 400 years of not hearing from God it was a BIG DEAL for him to bring news from God to these people!

So as a result thousands of people gathered from the entire surrounding region to hear John speak in his sweet camel hair outfit and locust and wild honey breath! He was one of the most well known and popular people in the whole area.

Then…Jesus showed up.

John couldn’t compare to Him! He didn’t heal the sick, cast out demons, or walk on water! It didn’t take long for John’s fans to notice Jesus’ amazing capabilities and teachings. So quicker than they gathered, all of John’s once dedicated fans left him and flocked to Jesus.

But check out John’s reply to this experience! He said, “He’s gotta become a bigger deal than I am, and I’ve gotta get out of the spot light”!

John’s got the attitude that we all need! Me less…God more! It’s not about ME getting attention..it’s about me allowing myself and others to give Him attention and glory! This is known as “The Shift”.

As Christian’s we are God’s Agents and as you know, any agent’s job is to make the one who hired them FAMOUS! According to 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “We were bought with a price”, which makes us NOT our own property. Our job as God’s agent is to put ourselves aside and promote Him over every single thing/person possible.

John’s got this idea and is more than willing to give up fame and popularity to take the light off him and to place it on God. Are we willing to put our fame and popularity aside to make Christ bigger than ourselves?

In closing, read this from the heart.

“A lot of people talk about promoting the Kingdom of Heaven, but what they REALLY hope is that the Holy Spirit promotes them.”
